New prop? hydrofoil?

Featured Replies

my 99 bass tracker has a 25hp 2stoke merc on it. im happy with it the way it is but if i can make it better im more than willing. the boat does take a little to get up on plane and move. topped out i see 20mph with 3 people including me and 23hp with me and my gf. this is with a fll tank of gas. im wondering would i see any advantage to getting a diffrent prop or adding a hydrofoil to the motor? im new to outboards so im kinda clueless

is there any other little mods i can do to get a little more hp out of it? im big on modding cars and racing em so its in me to tinker and make things faster than stock if possible. just dont know outboards

That is a tough question. that sounds about right for a 25 HP. I have a 16' that I had a 25HP on and it would do 25MPH with just me with the right prop. With 3 people it would barley do 15MPH. If I changed to a smaller prop it would go faster.

Please my standard answer to, what prop do I need?, here.

it is tip#4 I see this asked so often I wrote that and just refer people to it.  If you have any questions let me know.

Just an FYI I recently upgraded to a 40HP and it will go 32MPH now.

that sound right for speed. My father-in-law has a 2005 175 tracker with a 25hp 2 stoke merc and it run in the low 20's with 2 guys over 225 in it. so the speed you say sounds right. as for the hydrofoils. they will help with planing. I have them on my small boat and it will not plane at all with out them. they are cheep. you can buy a pair of dolefinns for about $30. they will not help with high speed, but with you getting the boat on plane. I would recomend them.
