How to remove paint?

Featured Replies

I have a 1968 aluminum v hull that for some reason my grandfather way back when decided to paint the inside of. 3 Times! I have scraped and powerwashed as much off as I can but there is a lot stuck on there. How can I get this stuff off?? I looks terrible and just keeps flaking off and gets everywhere. Taking all suggestions

I saw a product online called peel away anyone heard of this stuff?

I had the same problem with my jon boat. What you need is to get some paint stripper, fine steel wool, a drop cloth or a tarp, some chemical resistant gloves, and a paint scraper. Paint remover is so nasty stuff so you'll want to work outside. Also, use the tarp to keep the paint remover off of your porch or wherever you're working. You want to apply thick coats of it on the paint using an old paintbrush. Wait about half an hour until you can see the paint loosening and scrape it off with the paint scraper. After that you need to rub off the thin layer of paint left with very fine steel wool. It's a long process but it gets the job done.

Maybe try a bead blaster or walnut shell blaster media. ;)

Where would you get walnut blaster media? Could you use it with a regular sandblaster? If I could blast it that would be faster than using chemical stripping

NO, don't use a sand blaster. It will remove the metal also and look like crap. Bead blast or as mentioned, wallnut shell.  Walnut shell is what they normally use on aircraft. These do not remove the metal.

You have to be very carful with chemical strippers. Many of them will corrode the aluminum and it's impossible to get it all out of seams and rivets to keep it from it.
