Rhino lining on my 10' boat

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

My buddy just gave me his old 10' great canadian boat.  Its in pretty good condition but takes on a little bit of water when 2 people are in the boat.  My question is if i made sure the boat was nice and dry and put rhino lining (liner for truck beds) on the entire boat (bottom and inside) if this would fix the problem of taking on a little water AND if she would have no problem floating, etc.

i.e. something like this: http://www.autobarn.net/herspraytruc.html

Please let me know if this is a good idea or not

Thanks

Don't put it on the bottom (outside)!!!  I did this, and the drag created is bad.  When only using a trolling motor, it takes me quite a while to get where i'm going.  You want your bottom to be slick, like glass, to help it slide over the water.  I now have to sand all mine off and redo it.  If you're going to use truck bed liner, do it on the inside only.  It will help to defend off water, but your best bet would be to have the leaks fixed right.

Thanks for the help.

Any other kind of application that i can put on the bottom of the boat that will fix the water problem and also make the boat look like new?  shes a little old and light yellow, so im looking to fix that as well ;)

any links to sites where i can get some boat patches or how i can fix these problems myself?

Thanks

Just fix the problem.  If it is a bad rivet, drill it out and replace with a tapered head bolt (from the bottom)

To find the bad rivet(s), put boat on saw horses and add an inch or two of water to the inside.  Get underneath and circle the leakers with a crayon

"sealing" with a liner coating is only temporary, adds weight (on inside)  or bad drag (on outside)

"eliminate, don't compensate"- My Granpappy's quote regarding "problems" ;)
