Need some advice for Lake Anna

Featured Replies

My son (12) and I are going to be fishing the Veterans day Fishing Tournament at Lake Anna on Saturday.   We have only been on the lake 4 times.  Fished it Sunday and am more confused then I was before.   I have read everything I can think of and just cannot seem to put anything together.

I am not looking for  a SPOT to fish.  Just advice on how to find fish.  We have only really found fish deep but can't get them to bite.

Figure I am going to go up lake.  Fish docks, rock points and grass, and throw the tackle box at it again.

I saw this on Charlie Taylor's Fishing Report for November 3, 2017:

LAKE ANNA - Largemouth bass are being found at all depths and the better baits are jig 'n pig, Hopkins Spoons, Shaky Heads, crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Best action downlake seems to be in 30 feet of water, where the fish are taking jigged Rat-L-Traps or Hopkins spoons. Bass are also to be found on rocky points. Uplake, the bass are found shallow in *** feet of water in willow grass where they are taking spinnerbaits, Senkos and small crankbaits. Above the Harris Bridge, the grass is dead and the bass have left the grass beds.

Dad, there is a reason we call her "One Fish Anna."

Look for the cleanest water you can find. With the rain this week some creeks may be a little dirty. So look for the clean and warmer water.

If you can find the shad in the creeks you will find the bass.

Sexy Shad 1.5's and Silver Buddies mimic the shad and are good ones to try to locate the bass and then get them to strike your baits. Yo-Yo the Silver Buddies.

White spinnerbaits will be thrown all over the place by everyone.

And in the early morning, don't forget your buzzbaits. White or black skirts.

You are right to hit the boat houses, docks and piers in the creeks. Most of the grass may be dead so don't put your money on the grass. However, if you see some green grass go for it!!!!

As for plastics, who knows? Maybe you will find some bass holding shallow depending on the water clarity and temperatures.  Otherwise, you will have to go after them in deeper water.

Good luck and have some fun although the temperatures will be low for this weekend. Dress warm.

Thanks guys.  Going to give it our bet shot....... I am sure we will have fun and enjoy the day no matter what we catch.

Staying warm will be the real challenge.

How did you guys do in the tournament?

Curious minds want to know.

Thanks.
