Loctite Marine Epoxy for plastic boat?

Featured Replies

I took the ghetto float out tonight for the maiden voyage. (See this thread http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1181508986)

So I get out there for about an hour just to see what falls off, and soon I'm standing in a puddle  :-? I checked the thing over 19 times for holes, but when I pushed it across the road into the pond, it must have made the small hole I found! Soooo, after conversing with LBH about JB weld and 5200, I decided to try Lowes on my way home. I grabbed the Loctite two part marine epoxy. Has anyone used it to fix a leak in a plastic boat? I am going out again tomorrow AM and hopefully she'll be water tight. I'll report back afterwards. Just curious to see what everyone thinks. Thanx

Hope it works. I like the JB Weld water weld. They carry it at Wal-Mart and it is like putty. You just knead it till the two colors in it are blended into one and put it on whatever you need to bond. Is that the same way as the one you used or did you get the more liquid kind? Just curious. I was wondering which would be better myself.

The Loctite that I bought is a two part liquid that you mix, and it turns very pliable. Sets up in 50 minutes and fully cured in 24hrs. Looks like it will work for tomorrow as a quick fix. It's been curing for almost three hours and it's not gooey anymore.

Patch - any quality glass (auto) will carry SIKAFLEX urethane. Material used to put windshields into car. Make a patch and us SIKAFLEX urethane to glue surfaces together. It will expand and contract right along with the RamX and will probably outlast the boat. About $10 for a tube which will be more than enugh.

Thanx George! I know the stuff you are refering to, it's obnoxious! My repair worked out fine for today, went out this morning, boat stayed dry as a bone. Caught a few bass to boot  ;)
