pimp my kayak

Featured Replies

Do you guys think i can put a deck on this kayak i'm fishing in? it's real sturdy and i always stand when i fish in it, but i think it will be easier fishing if i'm a little higher up. im thinking about covering all or half of the kayak with a deck and leaving about 3 inches of lip from the deck to the top. i also wanna puts two seats in it that are high up like the kind on bass boats, but i have to put the kayak on top of the car so i would have to take them on and off the kayak. Do you guys have any suggestions for the seats? Here's a pic:

c17, if you are planning to add a deck to that boat and then stand and fish off of it, you must obviously be a tight rope walker.  Unless I had outriggers on that thing, I wouldn't even consider it.  But then, I'm an old fart.

One thing you need to consider is the total weight capacity of the kayak. I'd make sure that my weight plus all the weight of the stuff you're wanting to add doesn't go over that figure.

A suggestion, look at those bass hunter boat seats and aluminum frames, measure across the width of the inside of the boat,Go buy some square aluminum tubeing and have a welding shop weld it together like the bass hunter models, you can mount base plates on the frame and put removeable seats on it also.I also see two storage holes in the last picture, looks like a good place for a small 12v battery for a depthfinder to me! ;)By the way i would not consider that a kayak more like a sneak boat for duck hunting,i noticed slots in the floor and sides, might be able to fab board mounts for a short front deck or seating instead of my earlier responce.
