hi i am an avid fisherman and was wondering what about a bait cast reel determine the weight of lure i can throw i want to start throwing huddlestons but don't know if my reel can handle it or if i need to get a new one

The rod will be much more important as to what weight lures you can cast.  If heavy lures, then you want to make sure the reel has enough line capacity.

I only worry about the weight on a baitcaster when its too light to throw well, like a weightless rig. Other than that id stay with a 5:1 or a 6:1 for heavy or hard pulling lures, more for ease of use more than anything else. 

As stated above the rod makes a far bigger diffrence in castability in any weight range.
