As for baits, plastics dragged slowly through the beds work very well.

 

Creature baits, lizards, trick worms, finesse worms, brush hogs, tubes, Senkos, and the plastics of your choice.

Yup, what @Sam said. Pretty much clockwork with the 

dogwood trees...and the plastics.

If it imitates a craw, throw it. Crawfish are the most active bait around pre spawn. Throw blue gill colored things around and in the beds when they spawn. Bass hate blue gill and will eat them even if it means savin them babies.
