Drop shot rod - Megabass Orochi XX drop-shot v. Dobyns DX702sf

 

I have to make a decision between these two, AND ONLY THESE TWO. I already have a Megabass Levante Stinger Shot for light weight nose-hooked drop-shot presentations. This next rod will be for a slightly bigger / heavier drop shot presentation (near grass edges, deeper, windier, etc...)

 

Buying used - available for the same price  - so $ is not an issue. 

 

I like Dobyns warranty - 80 bucks equals new rod 

 

I don’t like Megabass warranty - 3 years is probably up. - if i break it, it probably won’t get fixed very well

 

I like the tip on Megabass as it will compliment my Levante Stinger shot 

 

i don’t like that the dx702sf is only a fast and not extra fast tip....it might not compliment the stinger shot I have (for light weight nose-hooked drop shots)

 

thoughts on just these two two would be appreciated. Thanks 

Megabass warranty is to original owner only, so even if it's not expired you won't have it if buying used.  If that's a major factor to you, then Dobyns might be the better choice from that standpoint.  

 

I'm a huge fan of the XX series and MB in general so I'd pick the Megabass...But both choices are good ones.  

Both get great reviews, but I prefer the megabass. The 702sf is a really good multipurpose spinning rod while the megabass is designed specifically for drop shots. I also feel the xx series is more sensitive than the dx series.

I have the XX drop shot rod and while I really like it for that presentation, I dont like it for much else.  It's a clumsy feeling to cast, which matters much less when throwing an already clumsy DS rig, but I can't seem to get any accuracy with it when throwing other baits. 

Not sure what you would be paying for the XX used, but not long ago they were reduced to close out price to make way for the new XX rods. If you look around you might find one from a retailer at the reduced price and still get the warranty. 

 

Otherwise, what about buying both then selling the one you don't like? Again, not sure what you are paying used, but I'd think you could resell either at zero to little loss since both are well respected rods.

Good Idea... just low on funds... and when everyone saw they were clearing way for the new xx rods, they were scooped up quickly - I missed my opportunity, unfortunately.

 

 

The 702  and the 6'11" MF XX are really similar rods in feel, I liked the Megabass' handle because it allows for more grip options.  The MB is a touch better in my opinion.

still up in the air... anybody use the Dx702sf for drop-shot plus... hair jig, ned rig, etc...?
