Looking at this spinning rod for my Dad who has just started to get back into bass fishing after I bought my boat last year. He's still using his spinning rod from the 80s and I'd like to replace that for him. I bought him a Daiwa Fuego spinning reel over the Winter and now I'm looking for a rod to pair it with in the $70-100 range. I like the specs on the Lunker Stik and it has pretty good reviews. Thoughts?

Never used one, but just looked at them.

I'd look at St. Croix Triumph, Bass Pro Pro Qualifier, 

in that range, as well.

It will most likely be used for wacky rigging or your basic finesse set ups, weightless flukes etc. I got him a baitcasting set up last year that he uses for cranks and topwaters. Just trying to upgrade his spinning rod. Looking for it to be versatile and sensitive. Don't need top of the line by any means. I pretty much only have a spinning rod in my hands for drop shotting or spybaiting and haven't bought one in 3 years.

In that case, might I suggest a MF or MXF rod.

Wacky, Ned, TX, other "finesse" are my go-to and

I love a MF and MXF rod. 

 

On a side note, I've become a major fan of St. Croix

MLF and MLXF rods, as well. They tend to fall somewhere

between ML and M in terms of stiffness.

I've not been into spinning rods in quite awhile.  I do know that several rods in the $70-$100 range have had good reviews.  I would agree with Darren about the rod's action for that type of fishing.  St. Croix has the Bass X, Okuma the EVX, Daiwa and Shimano have several lines in that price range.  I like my Fenwick HMG rods.

 

I also think a graphite rod would be more sensitive than Fenglass.  I would choose the Lunker Stik for treble lures.  I can't suggest the best rod for your dad, but I can suggest you look at something besides the Lunker Stik for those techniques.

Ended up going to Cabelas this afternoon because they had the Daiwa Fuego CT at a nice price and ended up looking at spinning rods while I was there. Ended up going with the St Croix Triumph M Fast 6'6. It's felt amazing and was extremely sensitive. I think he'll like it.
