Garmin vs. Lowrance

Featured Replies

Currently looking for a replacement depthfinder to go on the bow of the boat and I cannot decide whether to look at a Garmin or a Lowrance.

I own 3 lowrances (2 X87's and an X96) and I especially like the X96, but I am very interested in the Garmin 160C. Mainly because I have heard very good things about Garmin and because the 160C is color and is only a couple $$$ more than an X96.

what do yall think?

If your familiar with Lowrance already then I would say go with the Lowrance.  I know the unit your not looking at is GPS but if you ever do decide to get into one, I prefer the Lowrance much more because they have better lake maps in my opinion.

The lowrance unit has a lot better resoltion than the Garmin.  Which is really important for seeing detail.  Buy a Humminbird 565, it has higher resolution  and power than both for $200.  Unless color is your primary factor for selecting a unit, then the Garmin is a suitable choice for that reason only.

lowrance
