Paint

Featured Replies

I have an older 15ft jon that is in need of a paint job. I want it the color of the tracker jons. What paint can I use to get this color and it not just chip and fall right off. Also whats the best way to prep it.

I had some of the same questions earlyer this month. Check out LBHs boat I think this is the correct link below. If not then maybe someone else can point you to the right post.

I was faced with a 12 foot aluminum jon boat that looked really bad from being out in the elements for so long. The aluminum had never been painted and was black in places. I used some aluminum wheel etching cleaner I bought at the local Autozone {about 6 bottles of it to be exact}. Combine that with a brass wire brush, water, and lots of elbow grease it cleaned the boat quite nicely. I later had it painted with Sherman Williams industrial flat brown paint. Not exactly the color I wanted but it was a free.

Also FYI I stopped by the Line X dealer today to price getting the bottom of this same boat coated. To my surprise there was a boat that he was working on that was coated on the inside as well but the inside coating was light grey and it looked really good. I thought only black was available but apparently you can make it any color you want. Even HOT PINK!

If you line-x the floor, be sure to only go a few inches up the gunnel. No need to add to the sides and it does add a bit of weight.  Good luck, let me know if you need some help.
