love our sun top !

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I thought I'd share my impressions of using the sun top on our new boat. My wife is super sensitive to the sun and I tend to wither in the heat, so when we ordered our boat we ordered the sun top as an option.

As luck would have it the first full day we spent in the boat the weather was kinda feaky for Maine in early May. When we got up the temp. was 48 but by noon it had gone up to 91 with 20 MPH winds, full sun, not a cloud in the sky.

I was up in the bow fishing, with sun screen, and a floppy hat, but the sun was hot. My wife sat in the cockpit reading a book or casting off the back. When we stopped for lunch we both sat in the cockpit and the shade was really nice. We were out of the sun and the wind and the temp. was 10-15 cooler.

Having the sun top up didn't make the boat any more tippy, and I could putt along at 5-6 MPH with no issue.

I can really see us fishing in the hot weather more, being comfortable and dry in heavy rain showers, and being much more warm and comfortable trolling for salmon and Lakers in the early spring. Don't laugh but my wife is working on some short clip on curtains for the back and sides for more shade.

I know most boats don't support something like this or a Bimini top, but if you get the chance to do so, I highly recommend it.

I had the boat all opened up today to air it out (too windy to fish) so I took a few pictures.

I'm with you on the sun thing. I think it's one of the best features of any fishing boat. And look at all the room under there! It will let you fish longer. Now if only it got you longer fish.... one can wish...

Getting longer fish is easy, just pick up the " Stretch-O-Matic " fish stretcher from Ronco?
