Rod for smaller frogs

Featured Replies

I’m looking for suggestions for a spinning rod to throw small frogs like a pad crasher jr. that’s Maybe 2.5” and 1/4# I’ll be throwing them from the bank over algae and floating moss, probably no lily pads

You probably already have a MH spinning combo around 7' long for soft plastics/small jigs. That's the rod I've used for this. I use 20# braid on my spinning combos anyway and I'll tie on a leader of mono if I need to.

I mainly use a baitcaster for the Pad Crasher JR Unless it is windy and I am trying to cast into the wind, then I will use a spinning. And I do the same thing with a MH spinning with 20# braid.  Some could argue that isn't heavy enough braid but I live in Nebraska so I'm willing to take the chance of losing that 10 pounder that is probably not even in the pond.?

Abu Garcia Vengeance 6’ 6” MH works well for this. I have 30 lb braid on mine.

Great also for t/rigs, jigs etc. This rod rated for 3/8 to 3/4.

Rod comes in 7’ MH also. Rated 1/4 to 3/4.

I use the 6-6 model for close combat and tight spots.

Retails for around $50.

Honestly, I don't use a small frog anymore since I bought a Hvy frog rod. I don't really see the purpose because small fish will bite the standard sized frog. It seems like you'd just be fishing for small fish. But I'd still use the spinning combo for the Snag Proof Original Frog because it's only 1/8 oz. I have a Pad Crasher Jr that I think I could cast on my MH BC combo. It's 1/4 oz.
