thanks for the tips james and unlike another poster said I reeeeeeeeeeeeealy wanna like this Calcutta as when I first started baitcasting I was a shimano man back with the old school bantam mags and my recently resurrected coriolis reels. I was just contemplating the Daiwa td luna and still might try one out. but I just don't get that satisfaction from easy casting bud. I like seeing the line peel off at a increased rate ha! guess I'm a distance and longer cast junkie. I'm just glad me and the Calcutta can get along and cohabitate and hopefully will be lifelong friends.

If you want to see the line peel off you could try Calcutta 100 or even 50 size, better yet get a conquest 100 and you will be very happy and satisfactory. 

Daiwa Luna might help you a little to manage some backlash especially in windy condition but not for distance department and not with light weight lure. Don't get me wrong it is a very nice reel, own one myself (Luna253), but I would trade for Shimano 300TE in a heartbeat.

Thanks James for the suggestions bud. I like the way the 200 feels in my hand personally. Why would the 50 and 100 series cast further? Spoil lighter designed to cast lighter weighted rigs? What I’ve been casting is as light as I will go for baitcast rig.

Yes mostly that, spool smaller lighter, less line capacity make it even lighter, lighter spool make it spin faster and yield more distance for lighter weight lure. Overall reel smaller make it lighter and easier to handle. I even use braid as backing and never fill the line to the rim just enough for one bomb cast plus 10-15 more yds(around 70 yds). But also rod power and action can play major part role as well.

I traded my Calcutta 50 year ago for some swimbait and now thinking of getting one back but this time might be conquest. I own mostly 50 size reel, 3 of 50 series and 4 of 70. If you not gonna fish anything heavier than 1/2 oz. weight plus plastic you can get away with 50 size reel easily, unless you need more line capacity or need big diameter line.

ok guys I plopped the bullet weight and 4/0 hook with lizard attached onto a digital scale and it came to a grand total of 1/4 oz. so, this will absolutely be the lightest lure I will throw with the Calcutta and if I can throw this 38ish yards I should be able to throw heavier baits a mile..............hopefully ha!

Try reducing the amount of line on the spool. I've experienced backlashes on both Shimano Calcutta Conquest 50, 100, & 200 reels and Abu Garcia 1600, 3600, and 6600 reels when the spool is filled to much. Problem goes away when the spool has less line on it. Honest.
