I am headed back to my hometown for work tomorrow for a week and I am lucky enough to be able to fish with my dad, and friends again. I really want to bring a few pieces of tackle but am worried about airport security, I would rather not pay for a checked bag. I am not talking about any crazy hooks or huge lures, but if I could bring 1 or 2 plano boxes and some plastics it would be awesome. Does anyone have any experience bring small hooks and lures as a carry on? I am flying Delta. 

What did Delta tell you when you called them?

They say you can fly with small hook and tackle in a carry on but they don't exactly know hook sizes. 

I wouldn't try it.... you'll probably be beaten and dragged off the plane lol 

I didn’t have any problem when I flew to Phoenix with gear. Brought a reel, bunch of lures and hooks and didn’t have any issues carrying on. Not sure how much relies on TSA and what you’re good with,  but it went through the X-ray no problem. 

That is probably what I am going to go with, Plano box in the bottom of the backpack, feign ignorance if they pull it out, I'll pick it back up on my return if they give me a hard time. 

Reels with line on them are usually rejected by the TSA. Hooks, I wouldn't. Bags of soft plastics, no problem. 

I'm going down to the Bahamas then Miami in a couple of weeks. I will have a checked in suitcase so I'll just chuck the sharp stuff in there. I've had no problems carrying on reels with line on them though.
