versatility?

Featured Replies

The majority of the time I fish alone... therefore I'm looking at a small craft that doesn't require a trailer.  It must be light in weight and able to be used on creeks, rivers, and moderately sized lakes. Also throw in decent for night fishing.

Canoe, Kayak, Pontoon, Pirouge???

I would say buy a boat with a trailer. even a big boat is alot easier to launch and retrieve by yourself than a car topper. # 1 everything you need is in the baot so there is no lifting, aslo the boat is ready anytime you want it. no need to lift it uo and put in on  the car/truck. If you want to stay small. look sor a small 12-14 foot jon or v hull with a tm and small outboard and a trailer. You can pick one up for $500 or so and they are light enought that almost any car/suv/truck can pull it. I used to have a 12 foot v with a 6hp and tM. had a trailer and pulled it with a old Chevy chevette.. My dad had a 12 jon and it was way easier to use the trailered boat than loading up the jon

I went through the load the boat thing and never again. Unless the lakes are big enough to get rough I'd look at a john boat with a trailer. More stable than a vee or semi vee and generally roomier. Shallow draft so they are fine on rivers and streams.

I have a 17' lowe aluminum bass boat w/ 70 hp johnson, just looking to increase my days on the water with hitting some smaller spots and possibly save some money on the transport to a few of the larger lakes.  Using the bigger boat when my fishing buddies can go and foot some of the GAS.

To me, I may go the jon boat route, but I've never been fond of jon boats. Well, another trailered vehicle parked at the house mmmm the little woman might eyeball me hard.  But I could hang a canoe/kayak/pirouge/duckboat  and the pontoon could be tucked away...  as far a a trailered boat... how do gheenoes compare to jon boats?  I've only heard but never known anyone around my parts to have one.

Gheenoes are pretty nice if you are in some skinny water. If you start getting even a little chop be prepared for a wet, rough ride. They also won't have the room a jon boat will BUT they are more quite than a plain ol' unmodified jon. If it's just you then the room really shouldn't be an issue. You can pick up a brand new 13' high sider gheenoe for about $900. I know they also come with a center storge compartment(or could be live well).

They are all over the place down in florida. I started to buy one but I only have room for one boat so i chose a jon because not only can i bass fish out of it i can also go gigging flouder out of it which really wouldn't be practical out of a gheenoe.

I guess it really just comes down to what the boat is going to be used for as both are nice cheap little boats.
