set up for medium swimbaits?

I have been casting some 3:16 Mission Fish in 5 inch.  Can't get it to feel right.  Should I be using braid, mono or fluro?  What type gear? I expected to feel it on the line like a swimjig or something.

    Fish it like a texas (florida) rig, and use the same gear you would.

    I throw a bootyshaker on a Dobyn's Fury 806sb... It's super overkill, but it works lol.
