I have always wanted a bass boat but really just can't make myself spend the outragous fortune the new ones cost. I have a friend from work who has a 1989 astroglass for $3000. It is a 18ftr with a mariner 150 mag on it. He bought it 2 years ago and put about $1500 in new trolling moter fish finders batteries and some motor work(new power paks and stater) has anyone had experience with this boat or motor? Really do not care about high speeds as I will be taking my wife and daughters ( the eight year old is a fishing machine but thats another story) just want  a good solid boat to fish some on the coosa chain of lakes here in AL.

OK fishing platform, not really good in rough water.

Pay very close attention to the transom on that boat.  Those Astroglass boats had rotting issues if the the owner didn't keep up with it.  

they guy who has it is extremly particular and he says it is solid what is the best way to check that?

with the engine tilted up slightly, get on the cavitation plate and slightly jump up and down on it while someone else watches the transom for flex.  If you're experienced you can tap on the transom and tell if it's solid or not.  

found out today that this is actually a 91 Astro 18dc with an 89 motor.

I have an 89 Astro that is in great shape but it has always been garaged. As said check the transom. If this boat is like mine it has great storage. Mine seems pretty decent in rough water and trimmed out properly I have a dry ride. I fish some big lakes but rarely on the great lakes.

Well going to pass on this boat It is a Quickfire 18dc and the front deck is at least 6" or more sunck below the top, I tneeds a new floor also. Was this a fish and ski hull they just set up for a bass boat?

to bad the floors are bad. a guy in my club fishes out of the same boat and it runs well, not real fast, but good and handles lake erie well. no its not a f/s modle. that is how they made bass boats back then the decks sat deep in the boat. you will see that alot with older boats, also the decks are not that big.

I have never seen one this deep!
