884c twfr first impressions

Featured Replies

Well I have been looking for a frog rod for a little while now and the 884c twfr has been on my mind since I’ve started shopping. With very minor information floating around in reguards to the 884 I figured I’d throw my 2 cents in for anyone who is curious.

Side by side I had the zodias 7’2 heavy fast, 7’5” extra heavy fast, st. Croix ltb slop-n-frog, shimano crucial 7’3 heavy with a few others that were laying around. Weaning a few of them out really quickly I walked out with the loomis 884c twfr. I think for really really thick stuff the 885 would be a much better choice but this rod can definately do it if you aren’t always throwing into thick stuff. I grabbed a chronarch mgl and spooled up 50lbs power pro braid and a 1/2oz frog and hit the pond.

Water is really low as they are pumping out for crop and the mats were thicker then usual but figured it would be a good test. I ended up missing close to 7 or 8 blowouts, but hooked into 7 bass from 1.25lbs to 5lbs 4oz, in open water to the thickiest stuff the pond had to offer. This rod preformed flawlessly. Plenty of backbone to horse that 5lber out of a thick mat and over a fallen down log, yet soft enough to throw that 1/2oz frog across the pond even on a really windy day! Needless to say I am very thrilled by this rod and pleased I made the choice with the loomis over the zodias. Not tomention the weight and balance is great on the rod. I will be hitting 3 different ponds tomorrow to try putting it through it’s paces again!
