Thinking Avid X or Mojo Bass, concerns with braid and leader

Featured Replies

I was thinking of getting a Avid X but have concerns with using it with braid and a fluro leader. For me it seems like the perfect rod and I really want to get it, but I feel the guides on the Mojo will give me less hassle. Does anyone have any hands on with this? I planned on going 30lb braid with a 12lb leader. Thoughts?

I run that same braid to leader on the x all day long, that said, there isn't a wrong decision here

No issues at all? That’s great to hear.  I see people posting issues. I can’t imagine St. Croix producing a beautiful rod with not taking that in to consideration. Both great rods for the money but want that Avid X.

I have the Avid X and Mojo Bass. I've used leaders on both with no issues.

I'm sure you are aware of this. The Mojo Bass and Avid X are all built on a SCIII blank. However, the Avid X is head and shoulders better than the Mojo Bass. When I started buy St Croix rods, I had 1 Avid X and 3 Mojo Bass. As I add more rods, they are have all been Avid Xs. The current count stands at 4 Avid X and 3 Mojo Bass. Go for the Avid X. :)

I went to BPS yesterday to grip some rods. When I compared the X to the Mojo it was a substantial difference. I can’t imagine how it actually fishes. I’m thinking of pairing it with a president 35. What do you like for a nice spinning reel?

Was a Shimano spinning reel person but switched to Tatula LT and won’t look back

I have an Avid X and I have no issues with 50# braid and 16# flouro leader. I used the Alberto knot.
