Visiting Lake CDA from Montana

Featured Replies

Spending 4 days on Lake Coeur d’Alene near Kidd Island Bay.  Super shallow there and fishing has been pretty dead as of last night and this morning throwing EVERYTHING.

Looking for some decent shore fishing spots to take the fiancee and my Mom.

Would also be happy to meet up and fish with someone!

How did you do? I need to get up there someday. Beautiful area.

Not great. Was limited to shoreline fishing.

Caught a couple dinks and some hammer-handles.

Still one of my favorite lakes in the Northwest though. We'll be back for revenge!

I was there few years ago in late September and had no luck either. Ive heard multiple reports of the insane pike fishery there, my brothers and I launched near Harrison and tried fishing weeds with spinnerbaits on a cloudy day, water was really warm and not even a bite. We later went into a cove and saw some good pike swimming around and could not get them to bite. I wish I was more experienced with what presentations would go well. I never caught a pike and its on my bucket list, sadly Washington state does not have any pike except few places in eastern Washington.

The pike are weird when the water is warm. I usually catch them on soft plastics and chatterbaits during the summer and early fall, then switch to jerkbaits in the middle to late fall.

Let me know if you're ever in Montana. I could probably get you your first Northern with relative ease.

My Dads friend went to Montana few weeks ago to a big lake with really shallow water for pike and they had lots of success, I definitely will love to go to Montana some time. It is definitely a far drive but I bet it is worth it.

Davkoz, BSB speaks the truth. Pike are everywhere over here. If you specifically target them, make sure you have a leader or they will cut you off.

Meh, If you're fishing with any hard baits, a steel leader is much less important and usually hurts the action of most lures. I just use some heavier flouro or mono (17-20 pound test is good.)

However, when I'm fishing for them with soft plastics, or jigs, I'll definitely use a micro wire leader crimped on a swivel.

You don't need to drive to Eastern Montana for good Pike. I catch them out of the Clark Fork about 2 miles from my house in Missoula.

BSB, Western MT has some good pike fishing. I had blast up in the Flathead a few years ago. I've never used a micro leader but have heard good things about them. I fish SWFL every spring, every thing there has teeth and will cut you off. I frequently use 30lb fluro leader over there. It seems to work very well. I took that same technique and applied it here. Most of the time it works well for pike but I've had them engulf $10 Terminator spinnerbaits (1st cast!) and my bait was gone before I felt the bite! I saw him do it. I was pizzed! Now just 40lb and nothing cut's me off.
