Aerator and Bilge Pumps

Featured Replies

Im doing an extensive overhaul on my 14' vhull aluminum boat. I have everything figured out except what to do for my livewell. I dont know what i need as far as bilge pumps and aerators. Do they work together, as in the bilge pump brings water to the aerator which aerates it into the livewell, then the bilge pump pumps it out? Sorry if thats confusing haha, thats how Im feeling right now, confused. Any help, tips, or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks  :-?

Also, Im gonna post up some pics when I get the time to take some

A bilge pump pumps the water from the bottom, bilge, of your boat back in to the river or lake.

An aerator can either pump water from the lake/river into your live well or just recirculate the water from your livewell back into it.

My boat's aerator just sucks water from the river into the live well and when it gets to a certain level the water just goes overboard.

it goes overboard as in you have a overflow hole or tubing and the overflow water runs to the back and the bilge pumps it out?

Many boats have an overflow tube attached to the livewell which either runs straight out the side of the hull through a thru-hull fitting or runs to an overflow line that goes out the back at the transom bottom with a thru hull fitting.

That's how mine works. The water level get to the top of a tube then goes down the tube through a hose to a fitting that empties out of the transom. If that tube gets plugged there is another one that goes right through the side of the boat to the river.
