Just picked up a daiwa bg 3000 series rod for finesse fishing. I have a few fury’s, a savvy and Sierra 735 I use for my frog rod. All casting. 

 

Is the Sierra price tag worth it over the fury for sensitivity? 

 

Also would a 700 Sierra work for drop shot? Or should I stick to a 702 for drop shots and shaky heads? 

Don't own a sierra, but I have a couple fury casting rods . for the price they are hard to beat.

 

I had a champion, which was a very nice rod, but expensive. Aaccidentally kicked it overboard and never found it.

That was the last rod over $250.00 I owned. My clumsiness can't afford expensive rods.

I haven't handled a 700 Dobyns, but I did play around with a 701. I can imagine the 700 would basically be a crappie rod. The 701 was barely a "bass rod".

 

In my opinion, each step up the line is worth the money. You get what you pay for. The extra $40 or so extra that a Sierra cost is well worth it over he Fury. It is much more crisp.

Yes its worth the jump and I would go with the 702. My 703 is a good rod but no where near its 8-17 lb line class power rating, I would say it's on the lighter side of a medium.

I have a champ 705 spinning rod and it is super sensitive. I'd get a 702 or 703 extreme micro Sierra. The micro guides will give you the extra sensitivity you need. Don't get a 700 or 701. The fury is decent but always get the best rod you can afford. Check the size of top guide on the micro series and be sure it can pass the knots of your applications. Report back here when you get it as I am interested in a finesse dobyns as well. Was going to save for a champ extreme but if a Sierra micro will cut it, I'll bite.

That is exact rod I bought for my spinning setup and I love it.

 

Put 1/4oz on that thing with some 8lb Berkley Super8 or 10lb Sufix 832 and you can absolutely bomb those casts.  Sends the 1/8oz ones pretty d**n far too - important for me since I fish from shore.

 

Tip is nice and sensitive, makes for good feeling out of the bottom.  Love using a 1/8oz bullet and a Texas rigged senko or similar.
