Platform questions about weight? and type of wood

Featured Replies

Hi , I have a 16' Bass Tracker it is a 1989 model , with a 40hp . It has a nice platform in the front but the back is more like the "Panfish Model" no rasied platform. I want to make it more like the newer models . Should I be concerned about the additional weight of putting a platform with storge in this boat?....How thick of plywood should I be using?......thanks , Bob

If your really worried about weight you could put some flotation foam(a.k.a pink insulation) and cut little pieces to go under it. For the wood just use 4 ply plywood you could use 3/4 inch. But before you put carpet on it make sure to use fiberglass resin or Helmsman water treatment. And you can just use indoor outdoor carpet to cover it.

Get some aluminum at a metal shop and have it cut to the shape of your hull at the level you will be mounting the platform. Also have some braces cut for the height. That will take care of any rotting plywood forever.
