Dont know how to use new bait.

Featured Replies

I just bough a  Heddon Wounded Zara Spook and I have never used one.  I have heard that they work so I bought one and i am just not sure how to work it.  Heres a  pic in case you dont know what the bait looks like.  Any help would be appreciate.

Thanks,

Not sure how well it would "walk" with the two props.  It looks a lot like the 1/2oz Devil's Horse that I use when there's a good chop on the water.  Try giving it a hard rip.  From the looks of the size of those two props, that thing ought to cause quite a commotion which is exactly what you want in choppy water.

I dont know how big that bait is but i have a similar bait that is about 2" long.  I  throw it when I see a ton of dragonflies around.  The double props imitate the wings hitting the water when they get stuck on the surface.  Twitched every 20 to 30 seconds I have caught some decent fish.  I'm not sure that my explanation why they hit it is correct, but thats my theory and im sticking to it.

Have never used that one myself. It does look a lot like a Devil's Horse (a favorite of mine). It's probably one of those baits that you have to let the fish tell you how they want it. After casting let it sit for a little and then twitch it towards you once and let it sit again (quite a few strikes in those 2 twitches). Then twitch it all the way back to you or vary the number of twitches between letting it sit until you find what they want. You do want some chop on the water as opposed to no wind and smooth as glass because of the amount of commotion it probably makes. Good luck with it ;D...
