Canoe issues

Featured Replies

So i borrow my friends canoe when i go out to fish on his lake in his neighboorhood, but i recently found out it has developed a crack in it because when we are paddling alond eventually we have to dump out water out of it which is such a pain. So how would i go about fixing this crack, it is made of fiberglass, so should i use some fiberglass to cover the hole back or what ? I want to make sure it doesnt leak anymore because i want to be focused on fishing not on whether or not im going to sink ;)

Not sure how big the crack is, but a simple repair kit like "Bondo" may do the job.  Just google fiberglass repair kit and you'll get several options.  I guess it really depends on the size of the crack.

Should be an easy fix. FG is much easier to work with/repair than most folks think. I'd recommend going to a local marine supply store/marina or even an auto supply like Autozone/Kragens and getting a repair kit. Just make sure the resin is mixed according to instructions and that you squeege all the air bubbles out of the glass patch AND let the resin completely cure. The surface you want to patch will most likely need to be sanded beforehand and make sure that it is VERY clean and free of any oils before actual patching. You also need to make sure that the patch is the same thickness or even thicker than the original FG material for strength purposes. IMO.
