The Historic James River in December 2018

For you guys and gals living in Virginia or who are thinking of fishing the Historic James River for bass or catfish, hold on.

Right now the river is high and dirty. And with the rain we are getting in Virginia it will rise even higher and get nasty.

So go somewhere else to fish until the river calms down after all the water from upriver passes by Richmond and heads towards the Chick allowing the river to go down and the water clarity to improve.

We have cleared 60-inches in the greater Richmond area so far this year in total rain. I know the willow trees love it but it has really put a damper on weekend fishing for many of us.

Be safe and everyone have a great Christmas and Chanukah.

At this time, December 23rd, the upper Historic James River has overflowed its banks and it may close down Cherokee Road in Richmond via flooding the street at the foot of Snake Hill.

The water is about three inches from the street and the river continues to be a beautiful chocolate milk color as it rises more and more.

With the chance of more rain by New Years the river will continue to be a problem for us fishermen into the new year.

So far this has been the second most rain in the greater Richmond, Virginia area for a year and we are on our way to come close (within an inch) of hitting a new annual high.

All be safe out there if you are hitting the water over the holidays.
