Would like some help with an older Jon Boat

Featured Replies

I decided I am going to start fishing (70). I really could use some help with some boat specs. It is a 1980 Lowe, 6 rib, Jon Boat, 16' long 48" wide with a square bow. Now you might say what do I need I just gave all the specs. I am trying to find somewhere that has all the specs as my transom is shot and I would like to know things like transom size, but I could not find anything that showed, including Lowe. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

What you you'll need to do is, as carefully as you can, remove the old transom and use it for a template to make, or have someone else make, you a new one.

Thank you, I appreciate your reply

Check out tinboats.net they have all sorts of info available as well as lots of "how to" and "this was my build" threads

Please elaborate. Is the rear aluminum transom fine and your wood has rotted? I have had that issue myself once. I simply tore out the old rotted wood and made a template using cardboard. With that I cut out a new piece using good quality marine plywood. If that is the issue make sure to cut it, prefit it and then seal it real well.

If the issue is with the actual hull and transom you can either have a qualified welder repair it or it maybe time to send it to the scrap yard.
