New Jon Boat Hopefully

Featured Replies

Hey guys haven't been on in a while i am going to look at a 10' flat bottom aluminum boat tomorrow its only $100 it could use some paint but thats about it i will be getting as long as its still available tomorrow. Can u put swivel seats in those it has 3 bench seats and how hard is it to do if u can because i would definately be interested if so. I'll let u no if i get it tomorrow and post pics of it

If you don't want to drill holes or anything in it then you can go on or to BPS and they have a jon boat seat clamp i believe it is 20 or 25 dollars i just ordered a set and then they have seats for like 20 and up that you can install on the clamps.  and you can take the clamps off easy fast and move the seats from boat to boat. of if you decide to get a new boat or something you can keep the seats and it will be easier to sell the boat without holes if you don't sell the seats with the boat.

Good luck I hope you get it..I have a 10 foot jon people have alot of negative thoughts on them due to stability but I find mine perfect for stablity and a heck of a lot better then my old canoe.

thanks wilson i'll check into that ya i hope i get it should still be available it was posted on my local craigslist today so it hasn't been on long and im calling tomorrow. And its gotta be alot better than what i use now, my buddy has a cheap inflatable boat we've been using for the past 2 years, not a bad rig for cheap but i think this should be a nice upgrade

It will be an awsome upgrade.  you will notice your on the water a lto more and it is more relaxing.  does it come with a motor?  the only problem with the 10 foot boats is they usually have a max of around 3 or 4 hp so when you get 2 or 3 adults in there sometimes it is hard but hey it sure beats inflatable.  and take it out without any fishing gear the first time for a few minutes to get use to it and such just incase you do happen to tip so your don't lose anything as they can get narrow.  mine is a 40 " at the bottom which is rare if is is 32 or 36 it may very well be unstable and maybe no standing but thats for oyu to figure out the first time you are out there fooling around trying it out.  also check for minor cracks or leaks when you go and look at it just in case.

sounds like a good deal  good luck and let us all know if you get it.

Doesn't come with a motor but my friend has two trolling motors we could use, sounds like a good idea i'll try it out without gear for a while like u said just incase we tip it. thanks and i'll post pics tomorrow if its still available

You chould be able to mount a swivel clamp and seat and it will still be stable.  This combo only raises things by a few inches.  Some folks don't like the clamp, but there's some things that you can do to make it a whole lot better.  First, ditch the wingnuts.  They are cheap, won't torque down enough and will probably break.  Next, get (2) locking nuts for one side of the clamp.  Put the seat on and figure out where you want it positioned.  Take up on the locking nuts so that the seat is where you want it.  On the other side of the clamp, put (2) regular nuts.  Keep the factory supplied washers and use them too.  Note the position of all the nuts when you can just fit the clamp down over the seat.  Next, take a dremel tool, hacksaw or sawzall and cut the excess threaded rod off.  Leave yourself about 3/8-1/2" extra sticking out beyond the nuts.

When you go to clamp the seat to the boat, leave the locking nuts where they are and tighten the regular nuts with a deep socket and extension.  You'll be able to torque down enough so that your seat isn't going anywhere.  No need to overtighten.  Just get it nice and tight; it will be a lot tighter than you can possibly do with those crummy wing nuts.  Since I put the seats on with each outing, I'll probably pick up an extra 9/16" deep socket, extension and ratchet wrench.  It will just stay on the boat while I'm out and in my fishing gear at home.

Have fun with your new boat :)

Definately sounds like a good deal, and bass pro does have a good deal on clamps and seats

just got the call that the boat sold last night >:) but i am looking on craigslist everyday so i will have one before the season starts  :)

If you continue looking for a 10, you may want to eliminate the "partner".  2 people in a 10 is very tricky.  It can get pretty ugly (like your avatar :)  :-?,...that's one less breeder in your lake )

It all depends on your size and your partners.  and also how you feel in it..at first in my 10 foot one I was nervous but now with me my brother, and a friend we all whip up and down it..we are all 12, 15, 16 around 100-125 each and we have never flipped or came close to it and we are all comfy.
