Jon boat

Featured Replies

Hi, I was wondering if 2,200 was to much for a 14' jon boat with a live well, trailer and 2.5 outboard Bass Pro has this package. There is a used jon boat near where I live with trailer and outboard motor a 14' I never see it move and the trailer tires are flat. Should I knock on the door and see if he wants to get rid of it? ;)

I would go knocking. Bass Pro will still have the boat if you can't cut a deal. If someone came up and offered cash and had it in hand might even let my 14ft go.

I will try that, How do you like your 14'?

I love it. I did upgrade to a 16 ft Ranger last winter but just can't part with the jon. great for the skinny water.

What do you think would be a fair price, This jon hasn't moved in a few years.

I'd start out by seeing if they have any intrest in getting it out of theyard. just a few hundred till you get a better back ground on the boat, motor and trailer. Then go up from there.

Thank you, its been there quite a while, I've been driving by it for about 3 years. It is almost in the front yard. But I will see if they want to get rid of it.

Just remember this one will take some work so if they want more than you want to pay just give them your phone number and walk away

you might get a call a few days later willing to sell.

It definately needs a lot of work, Looks like the motor is shot from the road and the trailer looks like its seen better days,

My 14ft was made in 1958 older than me lol it is solid with no leaks.

If you can buy it right you can get a bigger motor 2.5 will only just move a 14ft. I run a 15 horse on mine.

Sounds good thank you, That is a old boat. Is it heavy?

Not really. The wife and I hauled it in the pickup the first two years we had it. She lost intrest loading and unloading third year so I got a trailer for it. The only reason I went to the Ranger was I needed to get up and walk around more often. My hips give me problems if I sit for long periods.

I hear that with the hips. Tight lines

Bill, I also have a 12' 1964 and it certainly is heavier than any 12made today.  Thicker aluminum and more generous dimensions are why and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

There is plenty of help here if you plan to make a project out of it and do a restore.

I also found mine by driving around lakeside neighborhoods (I'm a UPS driver) by leaving a photo copied note on any door with a boat in the yard.  You'd be surprised, look for one with moss on it and the owner might even give it to you, thanking you for removing the eyesore that was left behind when a son left for college 10 yrs ago or whatever.  They are out there, you just need to go find yours!

Good luck!
