Boat Fiberglass Repair

Featured Replies

Looking for issues that I need to be aware of after having the fiberglass repaired on the stern of my Nitro 901. The damage literally removed about 3 quarter size chunks of the outer shell to the 3rd of 5 por layers but did not penetrate the inner fiberglass pour. However the strike caused cracking thus causing a 2 foot by 4 foot area to be replaced on the outer shell to clear any possible problems so I am told. I am trying to figure out if I need to worry about it at all after the repair as they tell me it will be stronger than the original pour (not sure I believe that). The issue is it was about 3/4 down the hull towards the back where the majority of the weight rests.

Pour?  Fiberglass boats aren't "poured", they're either hand laid FB matting saturated with FB resins or they're shot with a chopper gun.

That model probably has a composite transom.  While people laud the no-rot advantage of that type of construction, what they don't realize is that composite transoms are more suceptable to crack, internally, if an undue force strikes it since the composite is less capable of flexing than one made of wood.

If the shop did what they're supposed to do, I'm sure you'll have no problems.
