Glass A vs Glass B??

Featured Replies

ive been thinking more into it and i am seriously thinking about getting a glass rig when i sell my aluminum this year. i dont know much, actually anything about glass boats so some info from you guys would be great. what does some of the glass companys offer over others. which ones offer better rough water ride, and which ones ride the shallowest when sitting still.

i know about checking the outboard for problems but what would i be looking for with a glass to make sure its structure is sound above the obvious chunks missing or cracks? im going to to be looking for something early-mid 90's and up. 17-19ft

If it has wood in it be sure to check the floor for weak spots and especially the transom. Walk around the floor feeling for weak spots, check around the drains in the floor and under the console. As for the transom, lift up on the motor to see if it gives any at all. Look inside the rear deck around any bolt or drain hole for dark spots(This could be rot). Get under the boat to check for cracks. Unfortunatully they can crack and be hidden by the trailer runners. Pull the cowling and look for paint that has flaked off around the heads. This is a sign of over heationg. Lake test the boat. Run a compression test on the motor and ask for all service records and who performed. If possible and I highly reccommend that you pay a marine mechanic to go with you to check out the boat. It is money well spent. Good luck.
