For those of you who know it, I'm describing lake Austin. I've been fishing it for awhile. Mainly using Texas rigs and the occasional square bill. I'm curious if anyone might have another way of attacking it?

Top waters will most likely work. Carolina rigs or big magnum worms fished really slow . Crankbaits spinnerbaits and swim baits should also produce. I fish alot of lakes similar to what you described here in Ohio. Basically anything that's not completely dredging bottom will still produce. A black ribbon tail worm with a small split shot 8-10 inches ahead of the hook always produces some nice fish for me in them nasty muck filled lakes. 

Learn to skip a jig or soft plastic around the docks. You will be shocked at the number of bass hiding in the shade on a sunny day.  The rocks are a different beast. I’ve had good success with football jigs and chatterbaits as well as square bills. Whatever you are most comfortable with.
