1998 Ranger R91

Featured Replies

I’m looking into buying a 1998 R91 with a Johnson Venom 200. I’ve pretty much done my homework on the hull, but I read a thread from 2006 saying the 200 is a 309 hp block that has overheating issues. Someone said you could put a one size bigger jet in the middle carb and help with the overheating issue. Any info to elaborate on this topic would be helpful! Thanks

the one to answer that would be Way2slow. he's the man about that stuff.

I guess you read my response in that other post.

To clarify the "over heating problem" you asked about.  The is not an overheating problem as far as the motor running hot.  You don't get a overheat indicator unless there is some kind of abnormal problem you have encountered.  The heat problem is internal to the pistons.  Which is caused by the way OMC routed the water around to sleeves.  To fix that problem requires a modification of how the water enters, circulates around the sleeves and exits the motor.
