Trolling motor waterproof???

Featured Replies

A member on here (fishstick) was kind enough to send me out a trolling motor he had when mine was stolen. When I received it from Fedex, the head was busted up during shipping.

I bought the parts and installed them with no problem. My only question is do I have to make the wiring waterproof??? When I took it apart, there was shrink wrap on the wires and I had to cut that to get the connections apart. When I put it back together, the only thing I had at hand was electrical tape so I just wrapped the wires with that. Is that good enough or should I get some shrink wrap and waterproof the wires???

Electrical tape should work fine. Your biggest goal is to not let the connections short against one another and the tape will do that. If it will make you feel better, you can get some liquid wiring insulation. It's a plastic goo that you paint on the connections that dries to a rubber coating. You can get it at Home Depot or Lowes.
