Ft Myers in October

Featured Replies

I will be in Ft Myers October 25-28th and want to get some fishing in. Is it worth getting a guide over at Lake Okeechobee or would I have better luck fishing the ocean or somewhere else?

Just depends on what you want to fish for and how you want to fish.

You can fish salt water species from docks, piers, canals or the beach in certain places.

If you want to hire a guide you can go off shore or fish in the bays, but even that isn't necessary.

Depends on what you want.

If you want to fish the Lake and don't have a boat you'll need a guide.

You can do a search on here for one.

I'll hire a guide for any fishing I do there. I was mainly curious as to what fishing is typically the best that time of year.

Late October is gas pedal good down here. First “cold” rain of the fall, usually moves them up and eating. If I was you, I’d go to the Big O. Water temps in the 75-79 range, cool breeze, big livewell of shiners, and a couple of cocktails...man please??

I should also ask, is there a better lake in the area to fish for largemouth. I've caught a few in the 5# range and am hoping to bump that up!

I Vacation down in Fort Myers at least one if not twice a year. My relatives live in a gated community. If you can get into any gated community - Fish it, the fishing is great in the small ponds.

I have seen a lot of post about people doing really good on golf courses, which I have not found a way to get into yet.

You also might want to try any ponds around the local churches or Canals. I have also seen people fishing around the Fort Myers airport water area's.

You can also try Lakes Park - It has a mixture of fresh water and salt water and many different fish.

Overall if there is water - fish it - There will be Bass.

The Bass is in the gated community.
