Looking for a place newbies can get their line wet in SW Florida

Unfortunately, I don't fish down that way. There are a couple members that live on the Tampa down to the Fort Meyers side of Florida that will probably be able to help you out though.

Not going to look for a boat until I find a place to launch it. I just cant stand to have a project boat 

Everyone I've ever met from that area is a snook fisherman.  I would think it's probably easier to find saltwater/brackish water access in that area then freshwater. 

 

Without knowing too much about the area and where in Port Charlotte your located, Okeechobee and Istokpoga  are probably around an 1-1.5 hours from you.

I've lived in SW for over 40yrs and would like to help you out but I need more info to do it right. 

 

You can fish for bass from Naples to Sarasota. 

There are rivers, canals, ponds and small lakes that hold fish. 

 

You're within 1 1/2 hours of Okeechobee and Trafford. 

2-3 from Istopoka, Grassy, Crooked, Placid, Kissimmee and Harris Chain, Toho and a few others. 

 

Some you need a boat some you don't. 

 

If you want salt water just look West!

There are rivers, bays, harbor's, canals, jetties, piers, etc. that will keep you busy for years.

Ive been fishing Bass up north for 20 years. All my tackle from Senco"s to Hitechs are all I own. 1 1/2 hrs one way to fish for a few hours doesn't seen right for me. Right now I am without a boat and all the canals are on private property or posted no trespass. 

 

I live just east of you on the other side of the glades.  There are a bunch of good ramps along Alligator Alley, you can fish Ave Maria university in Naples.  There are a bunch of lakes, and canals that hold fish with accessibility in the area.  Look at Google earth and zero in on areas in your vicinity.  If there is water that holds water all year you will find bass.  If your walking banks anywhere down here wear a good pair of boots, there area crawling critters all over the place.  Be aware and always careful.

If you post where you're at I'll try to give you specific places within a reasonable distance.
