All,

     I'm new to bass fishing and Lake Murray is my home lake.  I'm fishing out of a kayak so I have somewhat limited range from a launch point.  

 

     Can anyone familiar with the lake make a suggestion on where I should put in to have the best chance to find the bass this time of year?   I've been fishing around Larry Koon Landing and Siesta Cove Marina.  Is there a better place to be?  Being new, I need all the help I can get.  

When in doubt, fish by the dam.

Drive a little up the road to L Wateree. It's much less crowded. Or better yet, go on up to Stumpy Pond Reservoir, the next up the chain, and you can be alone. But beware, it earned the name Stumpy. 

@the reel ess I've read several of your posts regarding stumpy pond, and am heading there today.  I would greatly appreciate any tips or suggestions you have for where to target while we're there.

With there Gators I have seen on that lake. You would never get me on it in a kayak

Good striper fishing next to the dam and a good white bass bite if you find them. Caught some good largemouth in the tree tops on deep crankbait in summer. I have not fished it this year

We're getting to that time of year when the striper and bass will start schooling again. I've heard some reports of it starting around the mid lake area already. You can literally throw a big topwater bait all day long this time of year. If you mark active fish in 20-30 feet of water, they'll come up that far and smash a topwater bait.

 

Unless you run WAY up the river, a lot of the bass action is going to be out on the big water right now. AS temps start to cool, they'll make they're way back towards the backs of creek arms.
