Just got done using a senko

Featured Replies

i just went earlier and had no luck. i dont know what the problem is. i lost 2 of them in about an hour. i guess its either me or there are no bass where i fished. i really tried to watch the line for strikes, but I couldnt really tell anything, except sometimes it would get tight all of a sudden. i just might give up this fishing thing.it figures i wouldnt catch anything on the bait everyone says catches so many fish

It takes practice just like every other bait.  And usually if the line goes from slack to tight, without you doing anything, then usually that means that something has it and you should set the hook.  I say give it another shot.

i thought i had 2 fish at one time, but i guess i just set the hook on a log because they got snagged.

are u fishing it weightless and weedless?

yea i am. i always have the hook out a little so I can set the hook easier, but i felt the line get tight and I set the hook on something and i lost my bait.

Keep the worm weedless. Tuck the point of the hook into the worm a bit to make it weedless. After you cast, wait till the worm hits bottom, reel in the slack, and drag it along the bottom w/ ur rod, wait for strike, reel in the slack, drag again...repeat. Almost a guarantee you'll catch fish this way.

how far do you put your hook in the worm? it would seem to me that if you leave it too far back you wont be able to set the hook well enough.

When I started fishing senkos I felt the same way. I thought your hook up ratio would drop dramatically by burying the hook. A friend of mine buried the hood and then proceeded to lightly touch the hook showing me how easily it pops out during a hook set. I have no problems loosing fish. You just have to gain confidence using it. Give it time and you'll get it. In my opinion I catch more of my fish by watching the line vs. actually feeling a tick, tick. Hope this helps.

WACKY RIG IT, I hate T-Rig Senkos, I fish Senkos wacky only, I don't fish many things TRig and that's just my preference. Once I switched to wacky, I caught MORE bass, BIGGER bass, and it was easier to detect a hit.

Just barely put it in there. Try to "skin" it in the worm, don't put it in deep. When a fish gets a hold of it, it will practically hook itself....the greatest advantage, and detriment, of the senko is its incredible softness.

Don't give up on the whole fishing and senko thing.  It just takes time if it was easy nobody would like it so much.  Wacky rig your senko if you want, but there is sometimes that just will not work.  If your fishing ponds and losing baits trigged good luck wacky rigging it.  My suggestion would be to texpose the hook.  Just t-rig with the hook all the way through the bait.  The hookpoint and the part just below it should be resting on the bait.  If you've done it correctly your bait should be in a straight line.  Now just take the part of the senko that is between the hookpoint and eye of the hook and put it a little towards the eye of the hook then slide just the smallest amount back onto the hook point.  Now if you've done it right your hook should be all the way through the bait with just a small amount tucked into the top of the bait.  Completely weedless and very penetrable on hookset.  Maybe someone will come along to explain this better.  If not check back tommorow and i'll take a pic tonight and post it for you tommorow.

When fishing the senko I think it is very important to pull the bait with your rod, not hop it like many other plastics.

This is so true fish wacky rigged with the senkos, and to keep them in very good condition use a o ring or zip tie in the middle of the worm so you don't have to insert the hook into the worm. And don't be ticked if you feel a strike but then you don't get the fish, I was fishing and felt a strike and thought I had set the hook and had the fish, but as I reeled in I lost it. I was very ticked and did nothing then all of a sudden boom I had the same fish again. It was a nice 4 pounder. You just have to have patience and practice, even on your lawn or driveway practice casting it helps. Good Luck :o
