Transducer placement question

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of getting something like a Garmin Striker to mount on my bow.  I have an 88 Cajun Maverick.  What are my options for placing the transducer?  It seems like mounting it on the trolling motor is asking for trouble.  It's not unheard of for me to scrape the bottom if I'm not paying attention or perhaps fighting a fish.  Is there a safer place?

Which trolling motor do you have?  If the transducer isn’t built into the motor, nearly everybody mounts the transducer to the motor. The skeg on the motor protects the transducer pretty well.

Scott, are they usually mounted behind the skeg?

Depends on where the skeg is on your motor. If the skeg is in front, yes, it’s behind the skeg, if not, it’s mounted in front. That’s why I asked which motor you have.

I've got a Minn Kota Edge 40.

Mount the transducer behind the skeg. No worries about getting it damaged
