Hi all just about time to head over to the st croix and catch some nice smallies! All I use are circle hooks thilll slider floats and 6lb stren, still hafta get a new rod, was looking at a fenwick hmx 7ft med light, diawa rgb 2500 reel.

I would recommend spending 10 to 20 dollars more and buying up for the HMG model.  I have the 6' and 6'6" Medium models for that particular rod and I love them as if they were produced from my own loins lol. 

 

They are the best medium priced rods I've ever used, and they are perfect for short cast, river fishing for Smallmouth.

 

Fenwick is the best company to go with on just a value level.

Might go to the st croix factory tomorrow guess they have a bunch there, 50.00 for a legend extreme!

Any Legend Extremes they MIGHT have, (there are seldom any in the $50 bin) will be a few inches to over a foot shorter than its original length. IF, there are any, you will have a narrow selection to choose from.
