So I need to touch up my Jon boat a bit. Been having all sorts of trouble finding any paint for it. So my questions does anyone know of a good substitute for marine paint that I would use on the boat? It is on a trailer so it is not constantly in the water.

If there is anything out there at actually provided good protection for the boat (from scratches and dings) on top of the normal paint stuff, that would be cool as well. This is for the bottom of the hull and some of the inside. If it is something they sell at Lowes or Depot I would REALLY like that as they are the only places I can find anything lately .

Rustoleum makes a topside marine paint that I am told works well.  I have even found it at local hardware stores for about $12.00 a quart.

what your looking for is called Fasco SteelFlex #9X, this stuff is a 2 part epoxy that's relativily easy to apply providing you dont get ahead of yourself and mix to much(like I did). It's used on oyster & mud boats and provides a water tite seal, the days of drilling out and hammering rivits are over, you can mix a color with it if you choose to. Is there any additional information on using the Flasco SteelFlex?  I'm very interested in this for painting my jon boat.  Is there an involved preparation process or do you just slap it on?

This stuff is a 2 part epoxy,  not really a paint...but you can add a color and Gerry (at Fasco) has a list of them, prep work consists of bringing the bottom to bare metal, not really as hard as some make it out to be, I used a wire brush on my drill and did it in about an hour,

wash it down and then wipe it with acetone....mix it up 1 quart ata time and you'll be fine,1 quart will cover 30 square ft,

This is really not as tough as you may think, if I can do it, anybody can.
