Good Rod for A-Rigs and Other Types of Fishing

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I'm looking into a good rod to throw A-rigs (probably mostly smaller sized rigs) and have been researching the best rod for this application.  I would like to get a rod that will also be suitable for other applications like fishing jigs and such so please keep that in mind when you make your recommendations.  The rods I have been seriously considering to this point are:

  1. Abu Garcia Veritas casting 7'-6" medium heavy/fast
  2. G Loomis E6X casting 7'-4" MH/moderate fast
  3. Lews Mark Rose Ledge 7'-6" MH/Moderate Swimbait rod
  4. Shimano Expride 7'-6" Heavy/Fast
  5. St. Croix Mojo Bass 7'-6" MH/Moderate Fast

Any advice/input on these rods or others you like would be greatly appreciated.

I have not used the Shimano Expride 7'6 H, but i have owned the 7'2 H Expride and Zodias and they are both fantastic for Arigs, as well as many other techniques. I spool up 20lb copolly on a curado 200 and mostly use yum flash mob jrs with 4 1/8 oz heads and 1 1/4 oz heads with RI little dippers. Fished this set up the past two years and caught numerous bass (and stripers) and it has worked flawlessly. With the shorter length (7'2)  I have been able to make accurate casts around laydowns and other cover. I am sure the 7'6 H expride (7'5 H Zodias) would be great for bombing Arigs if you want the longer length rod, I just prefer the 7'2 H because it doubles as a pitching rod in the summer.
