Need a little help with a boat price

Featured Replies

I could use a little help with a boat price.

I am looking at a Fiberglass 1978 Hydrasport 17' 6' bass boat w/ Trailer. It has a 1978 80hp Mercury Engine w/ a stainless steel prop. Both are in very good condition and have been well maintained. It has trim controls at the front of the boat as well as at the steering wheel.

It comes with trolling motor and 3 marine batteries that are 1 year old. Humming Bird Fish Finder. Seats, airrater, and what not are pretty new.  It also comes with another complete lower unit for the motor and a spare stainless steel prop. The guy said it has an extra thick hull.

The guy is a friend of my wife's grandfather. Her grandfather knows the history of the boat and says it has been well maintained.

I can pick it all up for $2000. Is this a really good deal or a so so deal? I wasn't sure because of the age.

Thanks for any advice.

$2000 for a 30 year old boat. Nope, not worth it in my opinion, no matter how "good" it may look. I'd offer him $1000 at the most for it.

30 Years is a lone time on a glass boat.  But if you can take it for the test ride and have it check out by a GOOD Mechanic (very close look at that lower unit) and it gets the OK....   it's only $2K.

Offer $1,500 and see if they will jump on it.

For comparison here is an add for a 77 17' for 1500
