need to catch a citation size bass

Featured Replies

I want to catch a 21+ inch bass. What lure(s) should i throw. i'm planning on hitting up a local lake where i've caught my two biggest bass. It's 10 feet at its deepest, and it has a lot of lilly pads, and some grass. No shad in the lake but I think they feed a lot on sunfish there so i was thinking a bluegill swimbait, but i can't spend $20 on the mattlures one. any suggestions?

Try a big worm.  Zoom Mag II or Ol' Monster.  10" Power Worm or 12" Culprit.

I fish the same conditions as you.  Bluegill is the main forage.

Top: Heddon Swayback Spook/ Horney Toad in the pads

Middle:DT-4 Bluegill Patten

Bottom: Finesse Jig for the Pads/buy some black shakey heads w/ red hooks and some watermelon red finesse worms and use them as a shaky head. sounds finesse but you will catch big ones doing this.

I caught a 4 1/2 lb spot and a 6 1/2 lb largemouth in back to back casts no the shaky head

ive got a lake with no shad also i have pulled three fish over ten lbs out with a bomber fat a firetigger crankbait it looks like a sunfish when reeled quickley  the 4 to 6 ft range works great

Caught em with large tubes dropped into cover.  Also with fat ika's.  Once or twice with a jig.  Buzzbaits with large blades worked as slow as possible in the daytime.  Smaller blades at dusk a little quicker.  Good thing about the buzzbaits is you can usually tell pretty quick if the bite is on.  Plus I just love topwaters.

If you have your heart set on the swimbaits, try doing a search for them on the cabelas, basspro, *** websites you may find em cheaper.
