Anchor trolley / Paddle clip placement

Featured Replies

Just got my first Kayak.. the lowly Ascend 10t.. I say that as yes I know it’s entry level lol. Anyhow.. I want to mount my anchor trolley (Yakgear) and paddle clip (1). Will mounting Clip on same side Interfere( be a pain the butt) with working the anchor trolley if paddle is in clip ? Is it better to just put on opposite side ? I know it’s opinion but just looking for that... opinions. I want to mount trolley on right as think I will land more from left.. was wanting to keep that side open... or am I thinking to much lol.

I always go opposite sides.

I have them on opposite sides, but I always try to land fish on the anchor side, since the paddle is much more in the way of leaning over the edge of the kayak (sometimes the fish decides and you have to go both ways). You may want to fish a bit before drilling the trolley. Is the clip moveable in a track? For the paddle clip, you may not be sure how far forward you want it, I like it as far forward as I can easily reach, since I don't like anything along the side where I paddle, so that may be something worth testing on the water.

Thanks.. I’ll hold off on mounting anything.. just get it on water first. Been raining so have had in workshop going over it doing little stuff. You all remember that excitement of first boat/yak.. and than add weather that stops u from getting it out there lol.

Even though I have a Bixby motor on my kayak I tend to sit with the paddle across my lap when I'm fishing as I prefer it for small position adjustments or short distance movement while working an area.  Until this year I never used a paddle leash and when I'd catch a fish and got it to the boat I'd put the paddle in the clip while doing whatever I needed to do with the fish such as a photo for CPR tourneys or just photos for fun.  It wasn't difficult most of the time but depending on net, rod, hooks, etc sometimes it took a bit longer.  Now that my paddle is tethered to the kayak I just toss it over the side out of the way.....I can't believe it took me this long to figure out.  LOL

Do you plan to use fish finder on your kayak? I think you should be concerned more of transponder arm in water than paddle clip. I mount trolley on opposite site of where my transponder arm at which is the same size as my paddle holder (bungee cord type).

I have the anchor trolley on my right and the factory mounted paddle holder is on the right also. Added a paddle holder to the left side recently but haven't been out yet to see how it works. Having both on the same side hasn't been a problem because generally i have the paddle across my lap and mostly use the holder for transport.  No right or wrong answer just what works for you.
