TN kayaks

Featured Replies

For all you kayak guys in TN would I be required to register a yak? I’m looking at a hobie with mirage drive. How do they figure the cost if I have to? Just trying to plan for all the cost.

Google says no, unless you put a motor on it. There's only a couple states that require registration of paddlecraft.

I live in Mid TN and as long as you don't power your kayak with an electric or gas powered motor it does not have to be registered. You also don't have to register trailers in TN. If you want power though it's cheap. My bass boat is only $13/year.

Used to be an old trick here in TN that when you bought a used boat for say $10k, the seller would put on the paper that he sold you a $2000 boat on an $8000 trailer so you'd only pay sales tax on $2000. They closed that loophole, LOL!
