anyone here fish in a inflatable boat? i'm thinking about buying an inflatable and putting a trolling motor on it

Here's mine.

I've never really researched inflatable boats much... Are they built really thick to withstand a hook going through it? Or do they have separate chambers in case of a hole or what? It'd really suck to be stuck out on one of them while it's losing air...

Here's mine.

nice what kind of boat is that? and how much? I'm thinking about getting the Sevylor Fish Hunter 360 and putting a 40lbs thrust on it

My boat is a Sea Eagle 9.   www.seaeagle.com.

It has five separate flotation chambers.  When the boat is inflated, it is almost impossible to accidentally puncture it with a hook.  It just slides off the sides.

Are these things = to a jon boat? They seem to cost about the same (Jon being 200 more or so ) but are made of air rather than metal...

being a mechanic ill stick with metal ;)

You buy an inflatable for the very reason that has the ability to deflate.

If you want a metal boat, get a metal boat. If you want to be able to deflate the boat and fold it up and put it in your car trunk then get that.

I would recommend having both...hard side boat and an inflatable for situations where you need it.

Go to Craigslist and look for the Sea Eagle boats. They are incredible.  Here is an ad I just found.  http://nh.craigslist.org/boa/992823267.html

If you are out in an inflatable, ALWAYS be prepared for the puncture to happen. Keep a puncture repair kit and a pump.

I like my little 6 foot Sea Eagle because I can put it on my shoulder and walk down to lakes that are not accessible to boat trailers.

heres a review of my boat http://www.tackletour.com/reviewsefoldcat.html

as inflatables go seaeagle seems to be the best out there, their material is durable as i am quite abusive with it, i run it on to shore and run it over shallow branches, and have alot of confidence with it. and they have several designs that fit many needs.

I fished out of a Sea Eagle 9 exclusively for two years and had a lot of fun with it.  They are great little boats but I upgraded to a Skeeter  ;D  I still have the SE-9 at my grandparents beach house for fishing local ponds and it still does a great job!  I pushed it with a 55lb Minn Kota and it would really haul!

I have an Outcast Fish Cat Cougar, 1 man pontoon. There's not as much room as the Sea Eagle, but I'm never lacking space. I love the thing. It's super easy to transport and much more stable than my 11' jon. It only needs 3" of water to float, so I can get into places, and launch from places, that most boats can't. The 4 air bladders are covered in thick PCV vinyl. When inflated, hooks just bounce off. Check out the pontoons if you're not looking to spend the $ a good Sea Eagle costs. I have a motor mount, but haven't ever tried a motor. That looks fun though.

I have a friend who has the outcast fish cat couger and he loves it. Does get places other boats can't get to.

I bought a Sea Eagle SE-8 last year and have been happy with it. Used it all summer and had no problems with it. I have a pretty small car so it fits my needs pretty well.

A couple of recommendations would be:

1. Get the flooring, it makes it a much more stable platform to fish from. (I stand up in mine with no problems)

2. Get an electric pump. I bought one that runs off the car cigarettle lighter and bought a little $5 adapter to connect it to my trolling motor battery. Makes inflating it near the water a breeze.

BTW - I took my 12 year old nephew with me a few times and he caught his first LMB in it.... ;D

I used to have a Sea eagle 8, to be honest it was too much of a hassle to inflate, set up, and deflate when you're done.  Some people just leave it inflated but for me that wasn't an option (2dr honda civic).  I eventually sold it bought a roof rack and kayak and I love it.

I have a fishcat ir streamer,  and love it when I'm not in my old ranger.  In and out of a pickup in seconds and only ways 50 pounds or so. With the oars and a set of flippers no need for a motor.  Pontoons rule for small water.  Good luck and tight lines.

I fish from a Sea Eagle 9.  I have a 46 lb thrust Minn Kota on it.  Great little boat.

But it is a pain in the rump to inflate and deflate.  I recently purchased an electric pump.  Haven't tried it yet.  We'll see if that makes set-up less of a hassle.

I have a 201 Champion, a 8 foot Jon Boat and a float tube but I've been looking closely at the Fold Cat by Sea Eagle for several reasons.

There are times that I fish back water areas that I cant launch the full sized bass boat and the Jon boat fills up the bed of my truck. With my belly boat I have to put on waders and and if I'm fishing in weeds the legs can get caught up in the weeds and it is limited on storage.

The Fold Cat looks like it will be somewhat close to the fish-ability of the Champion. hmmmm.

Guys, I'm stoked.  I tried out the 120 Volt electric pump just now.  It worked like a dream.  That Sea Eagle 9 raft was fully inflated in 5 minutes flat.  And I never broke a sweat!

I'll be fishing a lot more now that I know it won't be such a hassle.  ;)
