1978 Terry 5.2m

Featured Replies

Just received a free 1978 Terry 5.2m with Mercury 115. In decent shape and runs good for 30years old. Fished in it last summer. Is anyone familiar with these boats? Are any manuals available for this boat? Any problems to be on the look out for? 8-)

Manuals ;D ;D ;D

They were one of the top boats in their day.  Any boat that old, I would be sure to check that transome good.  Transome and floor rot would be your main concerns.  Rotted floors also usually mean rotted stringers.

Thanks, It's on blocks in my garage. As soon as it starts to warm up i was going to re-carpet the boat. I will check out the wood and wiring before the new carpet goes down. 8-)

I'm not sure if we would be talking about the same company or not. I bought an '84 Terry. This company was in LA not sure of the town. It's a 14' aluminum bass boat (casting decks front and back) and has a 35hp Merc. Have changed out all the ply and replaced the carpeting. Have to wait until Monday to buy stainless screws to finish it up. The motor seems to be in decent condition. Ran it in a 55gal drum. I'll have to wait and get it out in some water before I really know. Tried to factor in carb work when I was haggling the price. Would be GREAT if I don't need it. It's a small boat but I pretty much fish by myself. I've sure got some high hopes.

Apparently it was outfitted by Starcraft and I don't think they do boats anymore...

I've fished out of quite a few of them.  As W2S said, they were considered one of the best back then.  Just make sure the wood hasn't over-aged.   :D
